Amazon’s “Dark Tower” Series Gets Its Leads

HBO’S DEADWOOD Movie DEBUTS MAY 31

By Kelvin Owens

Lots of people hated the film version of the Dark Tower, maybe this casting news will cheer them up. British actor Sam Strike (“Nightflyers,” “Leatherface”) has been cast as Roland Deschain the Gunslinger, and Finnish actor Jasper Paakkonen (“BlacKKKlansman,” “Vikings”) is the Man in Black in “The Dark Tower” TV series for Amazon.

The Media Rights Capital-produced series was initially going to tie in with the 2017 film adaptation starring Idris Elba as Roland and Matthew McConaughey.

However, after that film’s critical and commercial failure it was decided the series will stand on its own as a more faithful adaptation of the sprawling world author Stephen King created across several books.

Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead”) will serve as showrunner on the project which is nearing a formal pilot order at the streaming platform after nearly a year in development at Amazon.
