Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ TV Series Introduces a New Map of Middle-earth

Rian Johnson Confirms His Star Wars Trilogy Is Still Happening

By Kelvin Owens

Sadly there aren’t many details available on Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series. However, Amazon just teased a Middle-earth map on Twitter, and it might give some clues about the show.

On Wednesday, The Lord of the Rings on Prime posted its first-ever tweet. It contained a famous quote by J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings series, who said, “I wisely started with a map.”  Two days later, this minimalistic map showed up on the series’ Twitter account, and it’s a vast, minimal landscape of mountains, oceans, and lands on Middle-earth. Amazon didn’t disclose a premiere date or casting details for the show yet.

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,” said the description below the map. Amazon, once again, isn’t dishing on much information here. However, Amazon is allowing fans to download and explore the Middle-earth map on its Lord of the RingsPrime site. They can zoom in via compass direction and also access the show’s social channels with a few clicks.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay are developing the series, which has a multi-season commitment, with the studio saying they are “making great progress” on the show. But they’re also taking their time with it and so aren’t in a rush to meet a start of production date.

Set in Middle-earth, the TV series is set to explore new storylines that precede the events depicted in “The Fellowship of the Ring”. A handful of social media handles for the series have been revealed including one unveiling the famed map of Middle Earth from the novels.

Looking forward to LOTR on Amazon? Let us know in the comments.
