Jordan Peele's Us Was Inspired by a Classic Twilight Zone Episode

Bill & Ted 3 Might Release This Christmas, Says Producer

By Kelvin Owens

The fact that Jordan Peele is working on a reboot of the classic horror/sci-fi series The Twilight Zone should be proof enough that he’s a huge fan of the franchise created by Rod Serling in the 1960s. It turns out, the series made such an impact on him, his sophomore feature film, Us, was inspired by a specific episode. The details were revealed by  Rolling Stone journalist Brian Hyatt as part of an extensive interview Peele gave the publication.

While Get Out had a lot to do with American race relations and the black experience, Peele recently said that Us was a more straightforward horror film. In other words, Us isn't meant to be a race-focused story, but instead a terrifying tale that just happens to be about a black family.

In the same interview, Peele revealed the film is heavily inspired by the classic Twilight Zone episode, “Mirror Image.”
[Us’s] initial inspiration, appropriately enough, was the old Twilight Zone episode “Mirror Image.” It’s terrifying, beautiful, really elegant storytelling. And it opens up a world. It opens up your imagination.

I am ready to be frightened by the mind of  Peele again, How about you? Let us know in the comments.
