Kevin Hart To Star In ‘Monopoly’ Movie For Lionsgate & Hasbro, Tim Story To Direct

    By Kelvin Owens

For years, Hasbro has been trying to do something with Monopoly, the classic board game that sets in the homes of millions. The company first rolled around the idea of a Monopoly movie in 2008, before going with Battleship and Ouija which brought in disappointing box office returns, but the project didn’t start getting enough good dice rolls to actually move forward until 2015. Now, with both Battleship and Ouija long forgotten, Hasbro is bringing the dusty old Monopoly box down from the shelf for another attempt.

According to  Deadline, Ride Along and Fantastic Four director Tim Story is the latest director to aim for free parking (if you played that way) and pass go, and he’s bringing his frequent collaborator Kevin Hart along with him. Hart is set to star in the film, but whether that means he’ll be playing game master Rich Uncle Pennybags or some regular guy who gets involved in the Monopoly shenanigans remains to be seen.

Hart, John Cheng and Carli Haney will produce for Hart’s HartBeat Productions label. Story and Prince Of Peoria exec producer Sharla Sumpter  Bridgett will produce for The Story Company. Hasbro is co-producing via its Allspark Pictures label with the company’s Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis and Greg Mooradian serving as producers.

Clearly the controversy that lost him the Academy Awards gig isn’t hurting his acting career at all, with his new film "The Upside" finally dethroning Aquaman. He has already had great success with one board game movie, " Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle," it will be seen if he can hit Park Place (Jumanji) get the snake eyes and land on BoardWalk with Monopoly .

I personally used to play this game all the time with my buddies, so very much looking forward to what they come up with for the film.
