David Fincher’s upcoming “World War Z” sequel has reportedly been scrapped by Paramount Pictures, the studio reportedly pulling the plug on the project last night says The Playlist.

The Playlist, which reported that Paramount Pictures decided to shut down World War Z 2 last night following several months of pre-production. Supposedly the sequel’s budget was part of the problem, as director David Fincher and his team were planning to make World War Z 2 for less than World War Z’s budget of $190 million, the amount before the extensive reshoots occurred. However the studio dragged its heels on the project, reluctant to commit fully even as the project began staffing up for the project to be shot in five different countries along with a six-month shoot in Atlanta.  THR confirmed the report of Paramount stopping pre-production on the sequel, but they also said it is unclear if the project is completely dead or if it will go back into development.

The recent commitment by the studio to two more “Mission: Impossible” films was seen as a big indicator the WWZ follow-up wasn’t going to happen. The project lost one of its biggest supporters in Summer 2017 with the passing of then Paramount chief (and Pitt’s former manager) Brad Grey.

Fincher, who similarly spent years developing Disney’s “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea” remake before that project was also scrapped, is currently editing the second season of “Mindhunter” for Netflix.

I for one, have been looking forward to where they would go with this story, where you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments.
