Rumored: Margot Robbie won’t be in the new Suicide Squad or Gotham City Sirens

Tolkien: The First Trailer for Lord of the Rings Author's Biopic Arrives

Say it aint so! The Warner Bros. DC franchise continues to restructure in the wake of a few box-office successes (Aquaman, Wonder Woman) and a number of shortfalls (pretty much everything else), a recent article by  Forbes explains what’s to come.

The biggest reveal in the piece is that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character, which she’s reprising in the currently shooting “Birds of Prey,” will very likely NOT be a part of “Gotham City Sirens,” “Batgirl” or James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad”. On top of that, the Mad Love-esque “Joker & Harley” movie with her & Jared Leto has apparently been fully abandoned.

Birds of Prey was initially announced ahead of the release of Suicide Squad in summer 2016, with Warner Bros. developing the film with Robbie’s Harley Quinn as the villain and featuring a number of female DC characters, with the likes of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey reportedly also in the mix for the film. The script was penned by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), who was recently announced to take over scripting duties on DC’s Batgirl solo movie after Joss Whedon’s departure.

Rumors have suggested ‘Prey’ will serve as the first of a trilogy with ‘Sirens’ second and a ‘versus’ film third. The site dismisses that and says despite Robbie not being involved, ‘Sirens’ is still very much going forward at this point. The report also shoots down talk of a Superman cameo in “Shazam” and the speculation about Robert Pattinson (yes you read that right)  being up for “The Batman”.

Birds of Prey is set to be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
