Marvel Phase 3 Ends with Spider-Man: Far from Home Not Avengers: Endgame

MGM Plans African Samurai Film “Yasuke”

Though Marvel Studios has been touting for a while that the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame” is the final piece of its ‘third phase’ of films, it looks like plans have changed.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has now confirmed in a new  interview with an Asian news outlet that July’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” won’t serve as the first film of the studio’s ‘fourth phase’.

Instead, that movie is being dubbed a Phase 3 epilogue. He says: “It’s the end of the third phase, you’re the first person I told that to.”

As previously indicated, the story of ‘Far From Home’ will kick off almost immediately after the events of ‘Endgame’ and so it sounds like it may deal will some of the fallout as well.

The move also allows Marvel Studios to do their big ‘Phase 4’ presentation later this year announcing their plans for the next five years as they did in 2014 when they announced their ‘Phase 3’ films.

While the first Avengers closed out Phase One of the cinematic franchise, it is thus far the only of the team films to close out a Phase. Ant-Man was actually the final film of Phase Two, and not Avengers; Age of Ultron. No films have been officially announced for Phase Four, although Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are all-but-confirmed.

Spider-Man: Far From Home opens on July 5th.
