Netflix is working on a new original series script, according to a recent report, and it is based on the Resident Evil universe. According to the leak, Netflix plans to create its own Resident Evil TV show, one that is said to be in the pipeline for a global launch. Assuming the information is correct, Netflix is working on the series with Constantin Film, a German production company.

Netflix's Resident Evil series will keep the same "basic premise" of the video game franchise and will "explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus." The series is set to include Resident Evil's signature elements, action sequences, and easter eggs.

The news joins a recent report indicating that Constantin Film is considering a Resident Evil movie reboot that would bring the franchise back to theaters, but with new stars and stories. It’s unclear at this point whether a theatrical reboot is officially in the pipeline — and whether we could potentially ever see a Resident Evil original movie at Netflix.
