The long war for Rambo is coming to an end as Lionsgate has given the fifth installment in the 37-year-old ‘Rambo’ franchise has a release date: September 20, 2019.

The premise of the final film is below:

“When the daughter of one of his friends is kidnapped, Rambo (Stallone) — who has been working on a ranch — crosses the U.S.-Mexico border and quickly finds himself up against the full might of one of Mexico’s most violent cartels.”

Moreover, Adrian Grunberg (‘Get the Gringo’) took over directing duties. But, Stallone still wrote the screenplay, with Matthew Cirulnick (‘Absentia.’) Cirulnik is also the writer of the upcoming Stallone vehicle ‘The Good Samaritan.’

Yvette Monreal stars as the kidnap victim Gabrielle, while Paz Vega plays Carmen Delgado, a reporter covering the drug trade in Mexico who helps Rambo after her half-sister is kidnapped.

Sergio Peris-Mencheta will play Hugo Martinez, the violent leader of a Mexican cartel (and who's most likely not in Rambo's good books), while Adriana Barraza, Oscar Jaenada and Joaquín Cosío will all also star.

Stallone confirmed that filming on the movie kicked off in October 2018 as he marked the occasion by sharing a first look at Rambo V – a look that just happened to be Rambo in cowboy get-up.

There's a reason behind the Wild West outfit, though, as Stallone elaborated on the theme in a few later teasers, explaining that Rambo just wants to work on his father's ranch and put his violent past behind him.

"After a lifetime of war all Rambo wants are days of peace," Stallone wrote. "Happy just to take a breath of freedom, to work his fathers ranch , to train horses , to live a meaningful life , To protect the only two people he still feels love for…

"Fate has other plans."
