The MCU'S Future Ties In Heavily With Disney+ Shows

Star Wars: New Details of 'The Mandalorian'

By Kelvin Owens

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has made it clear for many months if not years now that “Avengers: Endgame” is an ending to the MCU as we know it – after this point it becomes something new and very different.

As part of a new cover story for Variety though, one thing he’s also spelling out is that going forward, the Marvel Studios shows on Disney+ will play a key role.

All the other Marvel shows released to date – be they on ABC, Hulu or Netflix – have come from the separate Marvel Television and have barely had any connections to the MCU beyond the odd name drop or guest appearance.

The new shows on Disney+ however hail from Marvel Studios and you won’t be able to ignore these because they will tie in heavily to the MCU’s continuity and will impact it – no more one-way street like before:

“These episodes will intersect with the movies in a very big way. Its a totally new form of storytelling that we get to play with and explore.”

Feige is busy out there selling the new film and about it he says: “We always wanted there to be a definitive ending. There’s an amazing line that [Robert Downey Jr.] says in the film: ‘Part of the journey is the end.’ That’s what ‘Endgame’ is.” Talking about the studios’ plans beyond ‘Endgame’, Feige says:

“Some of these films will feature characters that you already know. Some supporting characters will assume leading roles, while some new characters will be introduced. The reward for all of these films working is that we get to try to do it again and do it differently and learn from our mistakes and try something we haven’t tried before.”

Feige also says it ‘remains to be seen’ if Marvel Studios will put out R-rated films, but for now one thing that won’t be touched is “Deadpool” with Feige saying:

“When we were purchased, Bob [Iger, Disney CEO] said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’. There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?”

The talk comes as CNBC reports that spoiler pictures and videos from “Avengers: Endgame” have already landed on Twitter and Reddit and feature up to 20 minutes of scenes from different points in the film. No one is reportedly sure who started the leak, but it is said to have been someone with access.

“Avengers: Endgame” opens in cinemas on April 26th.
