The Real Choose Your Own Adventure Is Suing Netflix Over Black Mirror Film

By Kelvin Owens

Looks like the super streaming service Netflix chose the wrong adventure with its feature film "Black mirror Bandersnatch." According to Vanity Fair "the interactive Black Mirror episode “Bandersnatch” has landed the streaming service in hot water, as original Choose Your Own Adventure publishers Chooseco, LLC, have filed a $25 million lawsuit for trademark infringement."

I n the complaint , as published by Polygon, Chooseco says Netflix “used the mark willfully and intentionally to capitalize on viewers’ nostalgia for the original book series from the 1980s and 1990s. The film’s dark and, at times, disturbing content dilutes the goodwill for and positive associations with Chooseco’s mark and tarnishes its products.”

Chooseco takes issue with Bandersnatch’s protagonist Stefan Butler describing a fictitious interactive novel (which is also titled Bandersnatch) as “a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ book,” implying it’s an official part of the series.

Netflix declined to comment for this story.
