Early Plot Reveal Poisons The Prodigy. Prodigy Review

The wait is over and who would have thought that they would add some of Tolkien’s beloved fantasy epic into this movie.

Fox Searchlight, via  TheOneRing.net, has revealed the first trailer for its long-in-the-works biopic about the legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien. Starring Nicholas Hoult as the titular Tolkien and directed by Dome Karukoski, the movie depicts the young writer’s life as he falls in love, goes through the nightmarish horrors of World War I, and eventually channels his experiences fighting in the War to End All Wars into a fantastical adventure story about good and evil, destiny and prophecy.

As we can see in the first trailer below, we’ll follow him from his childhood days in the English countryside, which informed his imagery for The Shire,  and on toward the battlegrounds of World War I, the source of his many written battles around Mordor.

Directed by Dome Karukoski and written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, the film also stars Lily Collins as Tolkien’s future wife Edith Bratt, Tom Glynn-Carney as his pal Christopher Wiseman, and Anthony Boyle as Geoffrey Bache Smith.

Tolkien hits theaters on May 10th via Fox Searchlight. If that’s not enough for you Hobbit Heads out there, fear not, for Amazon is spending a billion dollars on an entirely new series based on The Lord of the Rings.
